We’re proud to announce that Raine Lester will serve as Marketing + Communications Editor for Rewire Mag this 2020-2021 academic year. Here, she tells us about her journey from Canada to Shanghai and finally to HST. Check it out!
When I moved to China at 22 years old, I could not have fathomed how the region and experience would shape me as an individual. Diving into a new way of life, a foreign business environment, and a formidable language barrier, I started to learn how to adapt to these seismic shifts. The steep learning curve inspired me to overcome these barriers and form a deeper understanding of the world around me.
When you find yourself somewhere completely new, you begin to see your experience from an outside perspective. Without question, there was enormous value gained from living as an expat in one of the world’s largest cities. Absorbing the diverse perspectives around me fulfilled my appetite for learning and passion for people. At the same time, my surroundings piqued my interest in using technology to empower companies and communities around the world.
Taking the leap
In 2019, I started to gameplan the next step in my journey as a global marketer. I knew investing in my education was part of that strategy. I was familiar with IE Business School, but I hadn’t heard about HST until I did a little digging with my passions in mind. I love to tell stories about the world around me, and I have an intrinsic fascination for the psychology behind consumer and market behavior.
That core understanding of my talents and interests led me to discover the Master in Corporate & Marketing Communication. Now, I have the opportunity to develop targeted skills in strategy and corporate structure, while satisfying my creative drive and passion for people. Mostly, I want to be able to learn from my peers and share my learnings with the world around me.
We are in a singularly disruptive time in the zeitgeist, with the business world acclimatizing at breakneck speed around us. At Rewire Mag, I want to dive into what these changes mean for business and marketing and find the latest innovations available to marketers to best connect with consumers and forge forward in a new world. I’m so keen to uncover the exciting ways that my industry adapts to new challenges, mainly through human-focused strategy and sustainable practices.
At Rewire Mag, I want to dive into what these changes mean for business and find out what innovations resonate with consumers today. Reach out at email@example.com to learn about what we’ve got in the pipeline or to share any exciting MarCom news!
